Exciting changes to the Shanahan home

I don't know where the last three months have gone. How is it possible that my little girl is already three months old? Since I can't figure out where the last three have gone, I'm not even going to phantom where the last 27 months vanished...

Aiden, my little man, is becoming more of a big boy and less of baby. Yesterday, with the help of Tim, Kevin and I moved Aiden's crib into Riley's room and moved his new bed into his room. Aiden loved climbing in and out of his crib and using it more as a trampoline rather than a bed, so we thought it was time he got an upgrade.
I truly did not think the transition from crib to bed would be such a challenge. Even though Aiden needed it, he decided he was too good for nap time in the new bed, instead he played quietly in his room for an hour and a half so mommy and daddy could nap.
Since there was no nap, Kevin and I decided on a 6:30 bedtime last night. This is when the 4 hours of crying, yelling, and pretending to sleep, started; all while Aiden refused to stay in his bed. For over three hours (Kevin gave up about 9:00), Kevin and I swapped bedtime with Aiden and watching Riley. Aiden finally passed out from exhaustion an hour after Kevin.  At 6:45 this morning, I was woken up to our little man pacing at the foot of the bed. So much for sleeping in!
Today's nap time was similar, with the exception of there being no one to tag in when things got tough. After 2.5 hours of crying, me more than him, he finally fell asleep...

Other big news: Riley is 3 months old, which means that she is an official member of the YMCA. She wasn't nearly as excited to see everyone as Aiden and I was. In fact, she slept through our entire visit. It felt good to be back in our very day routine. We can't wait to go again tomorrow.

Here are Riley's very unofficial messiness and some 3 month pics:
Height: 24 1/4"
Weight: 11 pounds 4 ounces
She is starting to laugh and is very active. She is still sleeping through the night, going to bed around 9:30 and sleeping till 6:45.

Mmmmm, Harley tastes good!

She's still a little too small for her exersaucer
And Aiden is just a little too big...

Our day out with Aunt Pat and Uncle Brad

On Saturday the four of us ventured across the bay to meet Pat and Brad in Oakland at the Zoo. Even though the temperature was in the high 90s, we still had a blast. I took a bunch of pictures with my camera, but here are the ones from my phone.

Our guide Aiden pointing us in the direction of the lions and giraffes.

The men were dressed in maroon, Pat and I didn't get the memo!

Pat and Brad held Riley while the three of us ventured to see the lions and elephants.

Proof that we were at the zoo and not a parking lot!

We had a great time, and are looking forward to going again when it's not quite so hot!

2 months old

Height: 23 1/2" - 95th percentile
Weight: 10 pounds 14 ounces - 55th percentile
Head circumference: 37 1/2 cm - 17th percentile

A little comparison to her brother at this age... Aiden was 2 pounds heavier, 1.25" taller and his was 2 centimeters bigger.

Riley is a lot more active during the day. She is starting to grab at things and making facial expressions. She has been sleeping through the night (11-5:45) since July 31st.

Since we were in Almanor on her one month birthday, we had her wellness visit at 6 weeks. She was approximately 10 pounds and 22 3/4". The same size Aiden was when he was 1 month old.

Here is her 1 month picture:

Spending time at Grammy's and Poppy's house

The car ride to Granmy's exhausted this little princess. I think the anticipation of going to Grammy's and Poppy's for the first time got to her.

Katina and Alexa came over on Thursday to hang out with the kids for a little bit.

We'll just call Katina the 'baby whisperer'. Riley fell asleep every time she was in Katina's arms.

Katina quickly made the hand-off to Alexa so she could spend some quality time with her Goddaughter.

It's hard to believe I've known these girls since they were Aiden and Riley's age.

Maybe I should let Katina and Alexa watch Aiden and Riley just like old times...

Uncle Jason and Grammy took Aiden swimming. I think they all had fun!

We thought we'd cram another activity into the week. This is music time at the library. Aiden wasn't too impressed with the Poodlums.

A quick trip to the park so Aiden could show Poppy his soccer skills. Check out the soccer ball, our cousin Leon designed them as part of his Juggle to World campaign to organize and fund inner city soccer clubs (#juggletheworld)

Aiden, Cousin Asher, and Poppy decided to play 'a round' of golf while Asher and Gretchen came to town from Tahoe to meet Riley.

Gretchen with Riley. Leon- hurry up and have one of your own, your mom would love a grandchild!

Aiden loves this rocking horse, we thought we'd see if Riley felt the same way!

It only took 4 months, but Poppy finally got to take Aiden out for ice cream. I think they both enjoyed it!

Aiden decided he would drive us home to Redwood City. It took a little longer than expected, but that was probably because he couldn't reach the pedals!

All in all a great exhausting trip hanging out with family!

Riley Elizabeth

After a few days of contractions, I decided it was time to evict Baby Shan 2.0. Kevin and I were supposed to be at the hospital at 6:15, however, due to 'traffic', we didn't arrive till closer to 7:00am.

After answering all of the admitting nurses' questions (there was a shift change in the middle of the process), getting an IV and getting hooked up to the fetal monitors, it was time to walk...
At one point, we set off an alarm and had nurses looking for us.

I was starving, and only allowed liquids. I didn't realize Kevin was capturing me devouring the grape ice-pop.

Dr. Joyce came in around noon (after we watched a marathon of How I Met Your Mother) to break my water. I wanted to be a tough girl and do it without the epidural. Stupid move! The contractions came faster and stronger immediately after my water broke. I shouldn't have listened to the nurse, she said it would only take 15 minutes for the doctor to come give me the epidural. Fast forward 45 minutes later, Kevin getting a little shower on his shoes and jeans, the epidural was finally administered, and I was a much happier momma!

Kevin went down to get lunch and I took a 20 minute power nap. When Kevin got back around 3:30, the nurse came in to check my dilation. At that point, she called Dr Joyce
to make her way over to the hospital.

Dr Joyce asked me to take a practice push while she got ready to deliver Baby Shan. 1/2 a push later she asked me to stop, finished putting her gloves on and called for backup. At 3:51, we had just enough time to discuss that Kevin was  going to cut the chord and announce the gender. 2 pushed and 4 minutes later, Kevin and I were both pleasantly pleased to announce the arrival of Riley Elizabeth.

Daddy and me soccer

In my quest to find activities to keep Aiden occupied this summer, I came across parents and kids soccer. Kevin and I originally thought it would be a bunch of two year olds chaotically running after a soccer ball, but it turned out to be better than we imagined.

This week's lesson was colors. Coach Megan teaches 5-7 two and three year olds soccer while incorporating other skills.

Here is Aiden running to the purple flag.

After he learned where each of the colors were, Coach Megan brought out the soccer balls. Somehow I only got pictures of Aiden running and none of him kicking the ball. Regardless, Kevin and Aiden both had a blast, and I can always get pictures next week!

I'm 2 years old

At my 2 year check up, I was 35.5" tall and 31 pounds. Both in the 80th percentile.
I no longer sit/stand still long enough for mom to take good pictures!

Hers what I looked like last year on my birthday compared to now. I've grown a lot!
